Last September 11, 2004, ALLIANCE FOR THE FAMILY-YOUTH (ALFI-Youth) was launched at University of the Philippines’ Balay Kalinaw, as a pro-life and pro-family organization of young women committed to responding to the many issues threatening and affecting the Filipino family. In July 2005, we conducted a contest with our members to come up with a name that will better reflect who we are and what we stand for. The result of our search is:

YOUTH FOR THE FAMILY, or Y-FAM for short

Y-FAM is our organization’s name effective August 2005.

Y-FAM’s MISSION : To undertake all kinds of initiatives in order to foster and defend the sanctity of marriage, to promote family solidarity and to protect life at all stages of development.

Y-FAM is against DEATH :

.......................... E – Euthanasia
...........................A – Abortion
...........................T – Total Population Control
...........................H – Homosexual Unions

Y-FAM’s AIMS are :

1) to defend the sanctity of life and marriage by fighting against the proposed anti-family and anti-life bills in Senate and Congress, especially since the youth are precisely the ones who will be most affected by the passage of any such bills; and

2) more importantly, to educate the youth, whether members of the organization or not, on the moral, economic, social, and religious facts and aspects of current social issues, since education is the key in enabling the youth to champion the fight to protect the family.

Since our launch, we have given many talks and undertaken several projects, events, and initiatives to raise the awareness of young people about pro-life and pro-family issues currently affecting us. Several of our members have written letters to the editor of leading newspapers to shed light on key family issues. We have likewise been making our presence felt in Congress with our letters to the Congressmen and position papers against the anti-family bills.

Much more needs to be done in order to defend the Filipino family, and we are ready to face these challenges. But in everything we do, we try to inject the dynamism, passion for excellence, sense of fun and spirit of adventure that comes with being a young person today.

MEMBERSHIP : Y-FAM is for all young women, ages 13-39 years old, single or married, willing to give time and talent to Y-FAM activities. Y-FAM is initially exclusive to young women, since we are precisely the targets of the anti-family bills, and as such have a unique and special response to these issues.
